Teaching English to the children was a great experience, myself, Katie and Lucy were observed by Gary and the lovely teachers at Haven Home whilst we taught them how to make words like big mean more by adding -er or -est and how to list items with commas. The children were very engaged and their English is excellent, at points it felt like they were teaching us! The children are lovely and every day is a great blessing.
By Luke :3
Another day bursting with blessings.
Just want to say a big thank you to Christ Church Junior School for providing the children of Haven Home with a giant parachute. This afternoon 75 children (aged 5 to 11) laughed and shrieked with excitement as Gary lead them in several fun-filled parachute games. There appeared to be some mass collisions underneath the dome of the parachute, but the children always came out with huge smiles on their faces and wanting more! How Gary, or any of the children kept going for an hour in 38 degrees I don’t know. One by one Team India chose to enjoy watching from the shade of a tree.
As Luke said, Rich gave his testimony during the Evening Devotion. Such an encouraging thing to do. It was so moving to hear Rich share his story. The children engaged well with the ‘Jesus is the Light of the World’ prayer craft activity and it’s amazing that the children already know some of the songs we have introduced off by heart.
Whilst sitting on a swing at play time today, Mouli (a precious 8 year old boy) came and sat on a swing next to me and with excitement said “Mum, mum” and with a huge smile started singing two of the songs we have introduced.
It’s funny, whilst in Mumbai, Sam (our guide who lives in the Dharavi Slum) pointed out the home of the 6th richest man in the world. One of the floors of his home is dedicated to a MacDonald’s and a Cinema for his children to enjoy. Given the choice of being in MacDonald’s, a cinema or Haven Home; I know where I’d rather be.
